Hey! Long time.. Yea.. I had this commitment that I will write one post every month. But I guess I am a lazy bum who ran out of topics.Well.., High time.. Now rape incidents have become so high that I can't give an excuse that I have been running out of topics. So here we are,.. The TV channels right now have nothing else to discuss about. So, even while I am writing this, I have this feeling that you all are fed up of hearing about this ugly topic. But common,.. One more can do no harm.
I have been hearing lots of different opinions and ideas on how the rapists who showed no mercy to Damini (the brave girl who is still fighting for her life) has to be treated. Switch on the TV, .. There are journalists, film actors, senior counsel, all having lots to speak on this. Now where would I stand amongst all of them,.. I have no idea. May be nowhere. But these are just my running thoughts which I think atleast a few would find enlightening (only for those who are going to continue reading though). If you have read my previous posts, I think you would have noted that I am not that kind of a writer who would want to use a word which a large number of people would need a dictionary to understand. I like keeping it simple.
Coming back to the topic. A girl gets gang raped. Ruthless gang rape, indeed rarest of the rare case. If the girl dies,. there is no doubt that these criminals are gonna get hammered with a noose around their neck. But what if she continues to live? Do they need a death penalty even then? What would be the after effects? Can death penalty for rape be a solution for rape? And as a lot of people have been suggesting,. castration. Would that be appropriate for the prevention of India's dirtiest crime?
Historically, India was the master of sex. Common, the whole concept of Kamastura evolved from us. True that people say that this isn't a part of our culture, we don't appreciate nudity, etc etc,. But It was far better during the ancient times when sex was actually a symbol of the traditional Hindu culture. But where are we now? It has become perverted, disturbing and ruthless. This is the story of 21st century, and people here have no regrets about going back to the stone age, where there was no concept of marriage. A male used to hit a female with a club, rapes her and lets her reproduce. Well,. now I feel stone age was better. Atleast the girl was in a physical state to reproduce. We have people here who mercilessly insert rods into a girl's vagina. Heights of cruelty and barbarism.
Lets analyse what's wrong with our country. Girl incites anger into the man, the man becomes vindictive... and does the harm. Delhiites in particular have a reputation of losing their temper at a quick pace. I remember a man who shot down another man because this other man's car bumped into his while parking. So there you go solution number one- Do yoga, or undergo an anger management therapy. All of you!
DESPERATENESS has to be another reason. Why are they so desperate? Cos they can't find a girl for themselves to have fun with. And why can't they find a girl for themselves? Cos the male-female ratio is too crooked here. The good looking ones would find their hunky-man early on. Men in Haryana get married at an average age of 35! Why is that so? Cos the female children are all killed before they are even born. People get scared of the expenses, worried about who would do the last rituals when they die, and now I guess scared of the child getting raped. Sad world! Solution number two - Save the girl child, give them all the care and affection and treat them good.
I guess India is one place where people still believe women are backward and useless. They are not expected to work, not expected to find a boy of their own, not expected to walk out on the streets alone, not expected to do anything what they expect a guy to do. To hell with constitutional rights, to hell with all women protection laws, to hell with LAW.. Our girls follow the culture of remaining inside the house looking after the baby, cooking, cleaning and serving you on bed. If the girl chooses her own path,.. Kick her out of the house and the family. We revolve around the so called culture and tradition...Well,.. I think the only solution to this is education. Literacy is not education. Education is not learning to read and write or even do maths,.. Its about living clean in this society,.. Educate the women about their rights,.. Educate the men about how the world runs in the 21st century, what "civilization" is all about, what "culture" really means. They have to learn and understand that women have all the rights to do anything that a man is permitted to do in the society. This.., is how India must fight the crime of rape.
Whats the point in shouting for a death penalty and seeking justice when the girl is struggling for life??? Ok,.. Lets say, the IPC is amended in such a way that a rapist gets a noose,..He wouldn't want that,.. he would rather finish off the girl who could be the only witness or evidence of the crime. Kill her so that there's no evidence. Another punishment people are seeking for is castration. Whats the difference between us and the criminal then? We are going back to Hammurabi's books where eye for an eye was the law. Its as barbaric as the law.
I agree to the Criminal law Bill, 2012. Life imprisonment is fair... but avoid remission and make a major chunk of it, a solitary confinement. That will be fair and square. Jail is a place full of bad apples, where's reformation of a bad apple happening when he is pushed into a basket full of bad apples? So solitary confinement could, (don't want to say "will") make him think and realise that what he did was wrong. Of course,.. the only concern I would say is how fast the trial process is undergone. If you want to protest,.. this has to be the reason. Not asking for death penalty or castration or calling out the government.
I am sure a lot of people wouldn't really agree to the suggestion that I gave in the last paragraph. But trust me,.. its worth a thought. :)
